Self-archiving (Green Open Access) Policy
Self-archiving, also known as Green Open Access, enables authors to deposit a copy of their manuscript in an online repository. The journal publishes works under a CC BY-NC 4.0 International license, which means that authors (or others) can upload any or all versions of a manuscript to an institutional repository immediately after publication in the journal, as long as the conditions of the license and other statutory and other copyright requirements as described elsewhere in this document are complied with. A link from the repository article page to the article’s DOI must be included.
The International Journal of Environmental and Rural Development (IJERD) ensures the permanent and long-term preservation, accessibility, and availability of all published content. All articles are hosted and archived on J-STAGE (J-STAGE), a trusted digital platform operated by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), which provides stable and enduring access to the entire IJERD publication history. This J-STAGE archiving ensures that all IJERD content will remain available in perpetuity, regardless of future changes to the journal’s website, platform structure, or hosting organization. Additionally, IJERD assigns all published articles unique Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), ensuring persistent citation, discoverability, and long-term access.
J-STAGE preserves its full digital library, including IJERD, with Portico in a dark archive (see https://www.portico.org/publishers/jstage/). In the event that the journal becomes unavailable on J-STAGE, it will be released and made available by Portico.

IJERD maintains comprehensive bibliographic format consistency across all published articles. Every article includes an English title, an abstract, keywords, author information, and references, and all related metadata complies with international indexing standards. All articles published in IJERD are assigned unique Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through J-STAGE (J-STAGE). This ensures permanent article discoverability, stable citations, and seamless integration into global indexing and referencing systems. DOI and J-STAGE standards apply to all IJERD issues, from journal inception to the present time.
- Transparency of Journal Operations and Accessibility of Policies
IJERD is committed to and ensures transparency in all aspects of its editorial and publishing policies and processes. All core policies, including peer review, publication ethics, authorship criteria, conflict of interest requirements, corrections and retractions, and data availability, are publicly accessible through the IJERD website. The journal ensures that authors, reviewers, and readers have direct access to all IJERD guidelines required for and supporting responsible and ethical publishing and scholarly communication.

IJERD is committed to open access which aligns with IJERD’s mission to support global scientific communication and knowledge sharing, particularly in the fields of environmental and rural development. All IJERD articles are freely available online without embargo, charge, or access restrictions. IJERD does not charge subscription fees, and all content may be accessed, downloaded, read, and cited at no cost to the user.

The journal does not accept advertising on its article pages, the journal’s website, or elsewhere.
